The fantasy megastar dropped some updates in his latest YouTube check-in, and the short version is: he’s been absolutely swamped with Hollywood stuff. We’re talking the Mistborn screenplay for Apple TV, board game collabs, AND a weekly podcast. The man is one person. Allegedly.
So yeah, new books have taken a backseat for the moment. But Sanderson is keeping it real with his fanbase , the first book of Mistborn Era 3, titled *Ghostbloods*, already has a completed first draft sitting on the shelf. What’s left is a revision pass to get it polished and ready for its December 2028 release date. Since he technically doesn’t need to hand that in until December 2026, he’s giving himself until July to wrap up his Tinseltown commitments before diving back into edits.
“I did warn you guys I’d be spending a lot of time on Hollywood,” he admitted, and honestly, fair enough , he really did warn us.
Here’s where it gets a little more urgent though: *Ghostbloods* is just book one of a trilogy, and he needs to have the *second* book turned in by December of next year. So the clock is quietly ticking in the background, even if it’s not blaring alarms yet. Sanderson says he’s hoping to get started on that follow-up later this year.
