Blizzard dropped the ball on Overwatch’s 10th anniversary event, and fans are not letting it slide. Players were forced to grind through matches and objectives just to unlock loot boxes filled with recolors and recycled skins, a far cry from what a decade-long milestone deserves.
Game director Aaron Keller responded fast, promising that weeks two and three of the event would boost rewards and guarantee players at least 10 legendary skins each. A Season 3 event with expanded earnable rewards is also planned.
General manager Walter Kong acknowledged the backlash, telling IGN the team needed to recalibrate quickly after seeing community feedback come in hot. He also addressed the China-exclusive Overwatch skins, confirming they exist because NetEase handles publishing in that region and drives market-specific content independently.
Kong insists Blizzard views the full year as the real 10th anniversary celebration, pointing to 10 new heroes planned across 2025 and more surprises ahead.
Ten years in and Blizzard still has something to prove.
