James Cook Skips Bills OTAs and Frank Gore Jr. Is Ready to Step Up

James Cook is nowhere near the Bills OTAs practice field, and nobody is explaining why.

The NFL’s leading rusher in 2024, with 1,621 rushing yards on the season, Cook skipped the voluntary sessions entirely. Missing out costs him a $250,000 workout bonus. Head coach Joe Brady said he was happy with overall attendance, but Cook’s absence is the loudest story coming out of Buffalo right now.

Cook signed a four-year, $46 million deal just nine months ago, but De’Von Achane’s fresh four-year, $64 million contract with the Miami Dolphins may have Cook rethinking his market value as the top rusher in the league.

While the contract drama plays out, third-year running back Frank Gore Jr. is making the most of the extra reps. Reporter Matt Parrino noted Gore looked explosive and decisive during non-contact drills.

Cook’s seat may not be empty for long, but Gore is making sure everyone notices him while it is.
