Deus Ex, TimeSplitters & More Dormant Franchises Could Actually Come Back , Here’s What We Know

Okay, gaming fans, take a deep breath because this might actually be good news for once. Remember all those beloved franchises that have been gathering dust in Embracer Group’s vault? Turns out they might not be dead after all.

Here’s the situation: Embracer Group is splitting into two separate companies by 2027. One will keep the Embracer name, and the other , called Fellowship Entertainment , is taking the crown jewels with it, including big-ticket IPs like Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider. But buried in the announcement is something that should get retro gaming fans genuinely excited.

Embracer board chair Lars Wingefors told investors that Fellowship is actively looking for partners to breathe new life into some of its other properties , and the list is *chef’s kiss*. We’re talking Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, and TimeSplitters, among others. He also mentioned that some bigger AAA franchises , including Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island, Darksiders, Remnant, and Metro , could see collaborative partnerships too.

Now, before you start doing a happy dance, let’s keep it real for a second. The road here has been genuinely rough. A Deus Ex revival was completely scrapped during Embracer’s brutal 2024 cost-cutting spree, and over 100 developers at Eidos-Montreal were laid off earlier this year. That stings. And if you need more evidence of how messy things got, Saints Row director Chris Stockman went public in February 2026 saying he believes the franchise is essentially dead , claiming Embracer straight-up ghosted his attempts to bring it back. Yikes.

So yeah, there’s reason to be cautiously optimistic here, but also reason to side-eye the whole thing. The difference between “we’re seeking partners” and “an actual game is in development” is basically the size of the Grand Canyon. These are promises made in an investor meeting, not a release date announcement.

That said, the idea of a TimeSplitters comeback or a proper Deus Ex revival developed by a passionate external studio? That’s the kind of thing that keeps fans up at night scrolling through Reddit and manifesting. Legacy of Kain stans have been waiting literal decades for this kind of energy.

Whether Fellowship can actually deliver where Embracer repeatedly stumbled remains the real question , but at least someone’s finally saying the right names out loud.

Talk is cheap, but hey, it’s a start.
