Nobody asked for their gaming session to feel like a Monday morning standup, but here we are.
Forza Horizon 6 dropped this week after nearly five years since the last entry, and players wasted approximately no time finding the most cursed Easter egg in the game: a car horn that sounds exactly like the Microsoft Teams incoming call notification. That specific audio nightmare that makes your stomach drop every time it fires off uninvited. They put it in a video game. On purpose.
To be fair, the joke tracks , Forza is a Microsoft franchise, Teams is a Microsoft product, and someone in that building clearly has a sense of humor and too much access to the audio files. It’s also not even new. The same horn was hiding in Forza Horizon 5, which means this was a deliberate choice they doubled down on. Respect the commitment, absolutely hate the execution.
Players on social media are reacting exactly how you’d expect , the kind of full-body revulsion usually reserved for accidentally replying-all on a company-wide email. The bit lands because it’s so precisely awful. You’re ripping through an open-world Japan in a tuned sports car, vibes completely immaculate, and then *that sound* goes off and suddenly you’re mentally back in a conference room in 2022 waiting for someone to unmute themselves.
On the actually good news front, the game quietly fixed one of the most tedious mechanics in the series. You no longer have to physically drive every inch of road to hit 100% map exploration , you just have to reveal the full map. That change alone is worth a standing ovation.
The numbers are also genuinely impressive. The game hit 172,093 concurrent players on Steam during early access on May 15, then blew past that with 273,148 after full launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Franchise record. PS5 players are still waiting , the port isn’t coming until later this year , but the rest of the world is clearly already in.
GameSpot gave it an 8/10, which feels right for a game that is excellent in almost every way except for the part where it gives you a workplace anxiety attack while you’re trying to enjoy your vacation.
Some sounds you can never unhear, and Playground Games knows exactly what they did.
