Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is heading to jail for 30 days after failing a drug test for marijuana, which counts as a probation violation. Rice was booked in Dallas County, Texas, on Tuesday and is set to be released on June 16.
The original probation stemmed from his 2024 highway racing crash in Dallas, a case that already put his NFL future under serious scrutiny. Now, the failed marijuana test has pushed things past the point of warnings.
The timing hits the Chiefs hard on the football side too. Rice will miss organized team activities and a mandatory minicamp, putting him behind heading into the 2025 NFL season. For a receiver coming off a torn ACL who needed this offseason to prove himself, missing that ramp-up time is a real problem.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs just lost a key piece of their rebuild before training camp even starts.
