1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate, just announced Empulse, a Titanfall-inspired movement shooter heading to early access later this year.
Studio boss Ian Proulx told Polygon that Empulse is now the team’s main priority, even as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, which launched in December 2024, continues to receive support.
The game pulls heavy inspiration from Titanfall 2, Black Ops 3, and even SSX Tricky, chasing that fluid flow state of wall-running, grappling, and sliding. Players will also use P.A.I.N.T. Bombs, a mechanic riffing on Portal 2’s gel system, to boost speed and jump height and keep the action constantly moving.
Proulx admitted 1047 partly chased trends with Splitgate 2, which launched in June 2024, flopped, got “unlaunched,” and was rebuilt as a free-to-play title on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
With Empulse, the studio is betting on giving players exactly what they have been asking for.
