Finding Emily is the charming, cheesy campus rom-com nobody asked for but everyone secretly needed. From Working Title, the studio behind Bridget Jones’s Diary and Notting Hill, this gen Z love story feels like a Richard Curtis comedy that grew up on TikTok.
Directed by Alicia MacDonald and written by Rachel Hirons, the film follows Owen (Spike Fearn), a Manchester indie singer-songwriter who meets undergraduate Emily (Sadie Soverall) at a student union. She accidentally drops a digit when giving him her number, so he plasters the campus with posters to find her. A lead takes him to psychology student Emily (Angourie Rice), who is American and definitely not his girl, but she agrees to help.
Owen emails every Emily at the university, all 318 of them, accidentally CC-ing the whole group. The internet inside the film erupts. Creep or hopeless romantic? He becomes a meme overnight.
Some performances lack comic timing, but this one is genuinely impossible to dislike.
