NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is taking city government to Twitch, and it might be the most internet-brained political move of 2025. His new streaming series, “Talk with the People,” launched today at 4PM ET, letting New Yorkers submit questions directly through the chat for Mamdani to answer live.
Mamdani described the move as bringing City Hall to the platforms where people already spend their time, calling it the first recurring cross-platform stream hosted by an elected official in the country.
The format is simple. Public questions. Live answers. No press filters. Twitch chat doing what Twitch chat does.
Whether you love or hate the politics, the strategy is undeniable. Politicians chasing younger, digitally native voters have tried Instagram Lives and TikTok cameos, but a recurring Twitch series is a different level of commitment to the bit.
