The Apple TV+ Sci-Fi Show That’s ‘Westworld Meets Resident Alien’ Is Earning Every Bit of Its Hype

Apple TV+ is quietly running laps around every other streaming service right now, and if you’re still not paying attention, this is your wake-up call.

There’s a sci-fi series on the platform that someone described as Westworld meets Resident Alien , and honestly? That comparison should have you sprinting to your remote. On one side you’ve got sharp, uncomfortable social commentary. On the other, genuine warmth and humor that doesn’t feel manufactured. Getting both of those things in the same show without it falling apart is genuinely hard to pull off, and apparently this one does it.

Apple TV+ has quietly built one of the most stacked sci-fi libraries in streaming. Like, think about what they’ve assembled , Severance, Foundation, For All Mankind. These aren’t filler shows padded out to hit a content quota. These are actual, considered pieces of television that people argue about on the internet for years. Adding another hit to that roster isn’t an accident. There’s clearly a taste level operating somewhere inside that company that knows what it’s doing.

What makes this particular show interesting isn’t just the genre mash-up , it’s that both Westworld and Resident Alien are doing completely different things emotionally. Westworld, at its best, was cold and cerebral and made you feel vaguely bad about yourself for being human. Resident Alien is, at its core, a show about learning to love people even when you don’t understand them. Fusing those two sensibilities into something coherent takes real craft. The fact that it’s landing with audiences suggests the writers figured out the balance.

Apple TV+ doesn’t get enough credit for this. Netflix gets the headlines, Max gets the prestige-drama discourse, but Apple has been consistently putting out sci-fi that actually respects the genre , and more importantly, respects the audience watching it.

If you’ve been sleeping on this one, the algorithm already knows you should be watching it. Maybe listen for once.
