Hulu is staying alive as a standalone streaming service and app, at least for now. Disney, which completed its full acquisition of Hulu in June 2025 after buying out Comcast’s remaining third stake, confirmed through a spokesperson that no plans exist to shut down the Hulu app or cancel its US subscriptions.
The announcement matters because rumors have been swirling for months. Some reports pointed to a 2026 Hulu phase-out, others suggested Disney+ would eventually absorb everything. Neither is happening yet.
For subscribers, this means you can keep streaming Hulu content without being forced onto a Disney+ plan. The Hulu standalone subscription remains available, and the app stays up.
The catch? Disney made zero long-term promises. The company can reverse course whenever it wants, so “no current plans” does not mean “never.”
For now though, Hulu lives, and cord-cutters comparing streaming service options can keep it on the list.
