Keke Palmer’s I Love Boosters Review: Wild, Marxist and Unmissable

Boots Riley is back and he brought a 105-minute Marxist heist film to theaters on May 22. I Love Boosters stars Keke Palmer as Corvette, a booster who steals designer clothing with her crew, The Velvet Gang, played by Taylour Paige and Naomi Ackie. Think fashion theft as class warfare, with cartoon physics and a tilted luxury high-rise thrown in.

Riley, best known for Sorry to Bother You, does what he does best: wraps sharp political commentary about workers’ rights and collective action inside genuinely absurd comedy. Robin Thede shows up as a shapeshifting alter ego, Tune-Yards delivers a punchy score, and costume designer Shirley Kurata dresses the cast in feathers, satins, and maximalist chaos that pops against the sterile retail backdrops.

The craft here is stunning top to bottom, and the anti-capitalism message hits harder than Riley’s debut. I Love Boosters is weird, funny, and completely serious about it.
