Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1 Review: Tatiana Maslany Delivers

Tatiana Maslany carries Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed on her back, and somehow makes it look easy. The new Apple TV Plus series premieres May 20 with two episodes, then drops weekly until the Season 1 finale on July 15.

Maslany plays Paula, a divorced mom fighting for child custody who gets blackmailed after getting too emotionally attached to a camboy named Trevor, played by Brandon Flynn. From there, the spiral never stops.

Created by David Rosen and produced by David Gordon Green (Halloween, The Righteous Gemstones), the show leans hard into existential dread around motherhood and womanhood. Murray Bartlett is a cold, calculated villain. Jake Johnson plays Paula’s ex-husband Karl, though the role underuses him.

The biggest knock: Paula spends almost all 10 episodes drowning, and it starts to feel like punishment for its own sake rather than real drama.

The Season 1 finale delivers a moment of genuine release, but the road there is relentlessly punishing.
