Miles Teller is done with written profile interviews, and a 2015 Esquire article is the reason why.
The Whiplash actor opened up at the Cannes Film Festival while promoting Paper Tiger, his new film with Scarlett Johansson directed by James Gray. Teller told IndieWire that the Esquire piece, which painted him as difficult to work with, felt like a complete betrayal of what actually happened.
He said the experience made him realize that without cameras rolling, journalists could misquote him, reorder his words, or invent moments entirely. He told his team he was never doing it again.
Teller also pushed back on the idea that being unpleasant is somehow marketable, arguing that negativity clicks but kindness doesn’t sell. He added that anyone who has worked with him on set knows exactly who he really is.
Teller can currently be seen in Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic that has been breaking box office records.
